A Month-Long Battle Against Sepsis

A Month-Long Battle Against Sepsis:

A Story of Clinical Excellence and Unwavering Determination at Fortis Hospital Kangra

At Fortis Hospital Kangra, every patientstory reflects our commitment to advanced medical care, teamwork, and compassion. This story is  a journey marked by critical illness, resilience, and the relentless efforts of our specialists. Under the leadership of Dr. Nitish Thakur, (MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine, DrNB - Nephrology), a patient with a complex medical history was discharged afterfighting a prolonged and life-threatening battle.

#A Challenging Beginning

The patient was a known case of carcinomalarynx and had undergone a laryngectomy in December. Post-surgery, he developedVentilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) and remained admitted at another hospitalfor 15 days without significant improvement.

When he arrived at Fortis Hospital Kangranearly a month ago, his condition was extremely critical:

  • Septic shock
  • Tracheostomy tube (TT) in situ
  • Multiple bed sores
  • Severe malnourishment
  • Culture showing pan-resistant Klebsiellainfection

The situation demanded immediate, aggressive, and multidisciplinary critical care intervention.

#A Determined ICU Team

With sheer determination and clinical precision, the ICU team under leadership of Dr. Haneesh Thakur (MBBS, MD - Anaesthesia and Intensive Care & DM- Trauma Anaesthesia, Critical Care - PGIMER) took charge. Managing septic shock in a patient with multiple comorbidities and pan-resistant infection requires exceptional expertise, close monitoring, and timely decision-making.

Every hour mattered.Every intervention was crucial.

Through meticulous round-the-clock monitoring, the team worked tirelessly to reverse the damage caused by weeks of severe illness.

#The Power of Team work and Family Support

This remarkable turn around was not just a medical success — it was a collective effort. Coordinated approach, clinical vigilance, and commitment to patient safety made the impossible possible.

Equally important was the unconditional support of the patient’s family, whose faith and cooperation played a vital role throughout this difficult journey.

#A Smile That Says It All

After a month-long battle, the patient is now being discharged in a hemodynamically stable condition — with a smile on his face.😀

Moments like these define healthcare. They remind us why we do what we do.
